Here are some of Megan’s first garment sketches for her history of costume class. For this project, she was instructed to design a derby inspired dress set in the style of the 1920’s. She used the 20’s flapper silhouette and borrowed some familiar shapes from the Kentucky derby such as roses, horseshoes, and the twin spires of Churchill Downs. She was sure to incorporate 1920’s style beading and chiffon into her look, and she used Photoshop to add her final sketch to a croqui for scale.

These are a few pieces from Megan’s work in the textile arts. Along with machine sewing, Megan is also knowledgeable in loom weaving, knitting, embroidery, dying, and several other fabric processes.
